Read about us in the National Media
When Steve Carell bought and renovated the Marshfield Hills General Store, the property garnered plenty of national attention. People, including the likes of David Letterman, were curious to know why a celebrity would buy an old store off the beaten path. It wasn't going to make him rich. It wasn't about to be the set of his next movie. It wasn't because he wanted penny candy at his disposal all day, every day. Steve and his wife Nancy bought The General to save a piece of American history...OK and an endless supply of caramel and chocolate isn't such a bad fringe benefit.
"He said the purchase was more of an emotional investment than a business one...."
"What an adorable thing to do than to say that you own your very own General Store!"
Steve Carell tells Access’ Nancy O’Dell the reason he bought a general store in his home state.
"He wanted it "for the right reasons" and will preserve the site as a store."
"These spots are growing more and more scarce. I hope to keep this particular one alive and well."
"I am obsessed with the people of Marshfield," he says. "I hope they don't feel weird about that."
