When Steve Carell bought and renovated the Marshfield Hills General Store, the property garnered plenty of national attention. People, including the likes of David Letterman, were curious to know why a celebrity would buy an old store off the beaten path. It wasn't going to make him rich. It wasn't about to be the set of his next movie. It wasn't because he wanted penny candy at his disposal all day, every day. Steve and his wife Nancy bought The General to save a piece of American history...OK and an endless supply of caramel and chocolate isn't such a bad fringe benefit.
